Rich and Powerful

It only took Dario one look at the woman sunbathing beside the pool at the Jockey Club for the desire to possess her spring into his heart.

Who is that girl in the red bikini, do you know her? He asked Bruno, his accountant.

That’s Beth, Uriel’s wife. You’re trying to tell me you don’t?”

Bruno, you think that I would forget those curves? Not even if I was a hundred years old. What did you say her name was? Ah, Beth, that’s it. Look how she glistens in the sunlight.” After a pause he added “She looks like a painting. What a pretty little thing. Where is her husband anyway, he didn’t come to the conference?

No. Uriel went to compete in a rodeo in Goiania.”

“Oh yeah, right, I forgot. When does he come back? Do you know?”

He’s going to be away for about fifteen days. After Goiania he’s going to participate in another rodeo in Palmas.”

“So, you’re telling me that she’s going to be alone this whole time in Paratiba? What a shame! I want you to do me a favor. Go over there where she’s sitting and tell her to come over to my table. Tell her I need to speak with her. It’s important.

I can’t do that Dario. Uriel’s a good guy. The best pawn you’ve got. I can’t believe that you’ve got the guts to sing on his wife. Better leave me out of it,” he added.

“Relax Bruno. I just want to chat with the woman. And, of course, offer my company and full support to whatever she may need while her husband’s away. What harm is there in that? Come on, give me hand this once,” he supplicated.

“Alright, but after I do you’re on your own,” he said and got up.

Beth had just turned twenty-three last July. Brunette, long, thick hair, piercing black eyes, thick lips, G bra. On that particular morning she was wearing a “fio dental” thong style red bikini that drew the attention of every man who set foot in the Jockey Club, while attracting envious glances from other women. Jealous, they looked her down for a little stretchmark here, a vein there… Spite! Search in vain. Beth walked over to the boss’ table. Everyone looked askance at each other in sideways glances. As Albert Einstein once said, more important than knowledge is imagination.

Not ten minutes later, Beth arrived, attending Dario’s request. Solicitous, she pulled up a chair and in an affirmative tone said, “You called me over?!”

I did. What are your plans for this evening, might I ask?” Dario asked without rodeios.

“Nothing, so far,” Beth answered, smiling.

“I’d like to extendyouan invitation. There’s just one thing: I don’t accept no as an answer.”

“Is this a convocation?” she asked starring into his eyes.

Almost. You should know, I’m separated from my wife for almost a year now. I know that you are also alone and that Uriel won’t be back for a while. I want you to stop by and visit me tonight, at my house of course. What do you say?”

“Can I think on it and answer later?”

“No. I need an answer now.”

“What makes you believe that I’ll accept your invitation. If Uriel even dreams that you’reflirting with me, he’s liable to kill you. He’s used to mounting wild bulls, what’s a man to him?” she said ironically.

I’ve got to go right now. I’ll wait for you at 8:00. GO by taxi; it’s better. Here’s my address.” Then he got up leaving Beth alone at the table.

“Dog! Bastard! You pay me son of a…” she said looking at the address in her hand. She then took the paper, tore it up and threw it away, smiling.

(To be continued … obviously!)
